　30年ほど前に日本語教師となりましてから今日に至るまで一貫してビジネスパーソンに対する日本語教師の道を辿ってまいりました。当時は「外国人に日本語を教える=日本語教師」という仕事も社会的に認知されてはおりませんでしたし、職業としても成り立ってはいなかったと思います。そんな中で、はからずも最初からビジネスパーソンを対象とする分野に関わり、かつ関わり続けてこられたのは何かの巡り合わせ、ご縁なのかもしれません。

　このビジネス日本語協会[BNA]はそういった長年のビジネスパーソンに対する日本語教育における経験のノウハウを、社会貢献・国際貢献として生かしたいと思い立ち、1991年に私が設立したものです。

　現在ではBNA独自の教授法に加え、そのような志ある講師達がそれぞれの専門と経験を生かすべく集って活動しており、その結果BNAは、何よりも動機や目的意識の高い、つまり「日本および関連市場でビジネスチャンスを広げるために日本語を学習する」というビジネスパーソンのコミュニケーション能力向上に役立たせて頂いております。

　おかげさまで、到達目標に達するまでの非常に考えられたテーラーメイドコースデザインのご提供、経験豊かで熱心な講師陣、設立以来一貫したリーズナブルな料金体系などにより在京の大手外資系企業、日本関連市場のビジネスパーソンの方々に確固たる評判を頂いております。

　また、そのようなビジネスパーソンの子弟が日本滞在中習い覚えた日本語を帰国後も忘れないように、日本語のブラッシュアップをしに帰ってきてもらおうと創めたジャパンリターンプログラム(JRP)も、今では「将来日本に戻ってきてもらいたい人材(未来のリターニー)育成」「日本語のできる優秀な高度専門人材育成とネットワーク」のプログラムとして大きく育てることができました。

　JRPは今年で13年目となりますが、多くの日本の経済界・政界のリーダーの方々、在京外交団の皆様のご理解ご支援を得ながら、2004年4月より特定非営利活動法人として活動しております。

　2006年にビジネス日本語協会は設立15周年を迎えました。経済のグローバル化のみならず、地球市民化に伴う、国境を越えた様々な交流のなかで、「ビジネス日本語教育分野で、微力ながら日本の将来に何らかのお役にたてたら嬉しい」との初心を忘れず、また新たに膨らむ夢の実現に向かってこれからも努力を傾けて参りたいと思います。

OPIのビジネスパーソンに対する応用法

I have been involved in teaching the Japanese language to foreign businesspersons continually since I became a Japanese instructor 30 years ago, and remember the time when the role of 'Japanese instructor for foreigners' was not yet socially recognized nor established as an occupation. It may be a turn of fortune's wheel for me to have been involved in, and to be able to continue to be involved in this field for businesspersons from the very beginning of my career.

The Business Nihongo Association [BNA] was established in 1991, out of my aspiration to make good use of long accumulated know-how acquired from many years of experience in teaching Japanese to businesspersons, as a way of contributing to society both domestically and internationally.

Today the Association enjoys the participation of excellent instructors who share such aspirations and are actively applying their individual expertise and experience as an addition to BNA's unique teaching method. We are able therefore to assist our students, i.e. businesspersons who are highly motivated through their objective to study Japanese in order to "enhance their business opportunities in Japan and other Japanese related markets", by providing them with services to improve their communication skills.

It is a source of great satisfaction to us that BNA is currently enjoying an assured reputation among the businesspersons of major foreign and Japanese corporations in Tokyo and other Japanese related markets, for its tailor-made instruction programme consisting of carefully formulated content towards the fulfillment of the student's goals, experienced and enthusiastic instructors, and reasonable fees, which have remained consistent since its foundation.

Furthermore, there is the Japan Return Programme (JRP) which I founded with the idea of encouraging children of such businesspersons who have acquired Japanese during a period of stay here, to return to Japan in order to maintain and improve their Japanese. This has grown to be a remarkably successful programme today, which contributes to the fostering of human resources as returnees to Japan, or creating a network of human resources with both advanced professional and Japanese language skills. Having entered its 11th year, the programme has secured its position as a non-profit organization since April 2004, with the understanding and support of many government and business leaders in Japan.

As it celebrates its 15th anniversary in 2006, Business Nihongo Association aims to achieve further aspirations through the cross-border exchange of activities, not only those of an economic nature but also of other multifaceted areas, while keeping in mind its original objective; to contribute to Japan’s future in the education of business Japanese language.
